Drone Router Conditional Approvals

The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau announces that specified uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), UAS critical components, and routers covered by Department of War Conditional Approvals are exempt from the FCC Covered List.

What it does PSHSB updates the Covered List and publishes an accompanying list of Conditional Approvals. The notice recognizes DoW determinations that the identified devices do not pose unacceptable risks to U.S. national security or the safety and security of U.S. persons. Newly identified approvals include Flock Group, Inc.’s Flock Alpha UAS and Miri Technologies, Inc.’s Miri X10 Travel router. Appendix B also lists earlier approvals for additional UAS and routers, with specified expiration dates.

Who it affects The action affects manufacturers and users of foreign-produced UAS, UAS critical components, and routers, as well as equipment authorization applicants, testing laboratories, and telecommunications certification bodies. Covered List restrictions continue to apply to devices outside the listed exemptions.

Why it matters The notice illustrates how agency-specific national-security determinations can narrow the scope of broad Covered List categories without removing those categories altogether. Conditional exemptions are time-limited and must be reflected in the FCC’s maintained list, creating ongoing compliance and authorization implications.
